Cowboys sign Katoa and Ramien

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have signed outside backs Jesse Ramien and Sione Katoa to two-year contracts for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

The tackle busting duo have appeared in 111 games together during their tenure at the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, the majority of which have come alongside one another on the right edge.

Ramien made his NRL debut in 2017 for the Sharks and has since appeared in 176 NRL games over the course of 10 seasons.

The 29-year-old has also made five appearances for the Indigenous All Stars.

Katoa has appeared in 134 NRL games since making his debut in 2018. His 85 tries rank fifth in Sharks history, with the 28-year-old surpassing Cronulla legend Mat Rogers earlier this season.

Katoa has also registered 10 Test appearances for Tonga.

The duo will arrive in North Queensland with significant big game experience, having appeared in a combined 10 finals campaigns.

“The signings of Jesse and Sione significantly upgrades the level of depth in our backline,” Cowboys Recruitment Manager Clint Zammit said.

“They join Tom Chester, Braidon Burns, Rob Derby, Jaxon Purdue and James Walsh in being signed until at least the end of 2028, which creates great stability in the backline for our club.

“Jesse has been in the top echelon of centres in the NRL for the better part of a decade. He’s experienced, can break tackles and is a strong defender.

“Sione is a wonderful finisher and carries the ball strongly out of his own end.”
