The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a two-year contract extension with two-time reigning NRLW Player of the Year Bree Chester, running through the 2028 season.
A member of the inaugural Cowboys NRLW squad in 2023, Chester has appeared in 29 of the 30 games North Queensland played across its three seasons in the competition.
The 23-year-old began her NRLW career in the second row, but switched to lock upon Ricky Henry’s arrival in 2024 and has since emerged as one of the most exciting young middle forwards in the competition.
Chester averaged a mammoth 36 tackles and 128 running metres a game last season on her way to claiming a second straight Cowboys NRLW Player of the Year award.
She was also a driving force behind the club’s maiden NRLW finals appearance.
Chester has represented the Prime Minister’s XIII in both 2024 and 2025 and the Indigenous All Stars in 2023, 2025 and 2026.
“I love what we have been able to build here and I can see so much potential in the direction we are heading,” Chester said.
“Being able to stay in this space where I have seen so much growth in not only myself, but the team brings me so much excitement.
“The connection and culture in this environment is incomparable and I can’t wait to keep evolving my game here.”
Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ricky Henry said the club was elated to extend Chester’s stay in North Queensland.
“Bree has delivered an incredible two years, and her back‑to‑back Player of the Year awards prove that,” he said.
“Her growth, belief and attitude make her an absolute joy to coach.
“I love the way she plays the game, she is uncompromising, tough and driven by pure effort.
“I’m absolutely thrilled that Bree has recommitted for another three years and I can’t wait to help take her game to another level.”
