Cowboys Culture Takes Centre Stage in New Art Exhibition

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are proud to support a bold new celebration of rugby league culture through the contemporary art exhibition Leagues, now showing at Pinnacles Gallery in Townsville.

Celebrating the spirit and energy of the greatest game of all, Leagues adds an exciting touch to the Cowboys’ 30th anniversary season, highlighting the various roles rugby league plays in the lives of North Queenslanders.

Curated by Bradley Vincent for Townsville City Galleries, Leagues brings together nine acclaimed Australian artists to explore the emotional and cultural impact of rugby league in North Queensland, designed for lovers of both football and contemporary art.

Through vibrant portraits, abstract interpretations, and newly commissioned works, the exhibition promises surprises for all visitors, capturing the spirit of the game — its energy, its people, and its place in our everyday lives.

In a further nod to the Cowboys' three decades in the north, Leagues features newly commissioned artworks that immortalise Cowboys heroes and reflect the game’s deep roots in the North Queensland community.

For Queensland-based curator Vincent, the exhibition is a celebration of the spirit and energy of rugby league in the heartland of footy country.

“Having the Cowboys involved in the commissioning of three brand-new artworks was an incredible opportunity, and it means that the exhibition feels rightfully dedicated to the region,” he said.

“With artists from across the country, it feels great to bring their work together for Townsville audiences, while also demonstrating the region's commitment to celebrating arts and culture.

“Footballers give us entertainment, joy and heartbreak on a weekly basis. Hopefully, when they see this exhibition, we can give a little something in return—a fresh take on the game we all love.”

Cowboys CEO Jeff Reibel said Leagues was a must-see for Cowboys fans, and the club would like to thank Mr Vincent and Townsville City Council for bringing the exhibition to life.

“Our club was built for the people of North Queensland, and it is terrific that we can celebrate the impact of our great game across our community through such an exciting exhibition," Mr Reibel said.

“Bradley has done a superb job bringing his vision to life, and Leagues is a fantastic addition to our anniversary celebrations, offering a fresh and unique take on our club’s history, values and impact across the last 30 years.”

Visitors to Leagues also have the chance to win free tickets to upcoming Cowboys games. Simply scan the QR code at Pinnacles Gallery reception and share your thoughts on the exhibition to enter the draw.

Leagues runs until October 19 and is free to visit at Pinnacles Gallery, 20 Village Blvd, Thuringowa Central.
