Cowboys extend Whitfeld

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a three-year contract extension with Jillaroos star Jakiya Whitfeld, running through the 2028 NRLW season.

The former Aussie Rugby Sevens star has quickly solidified herself as one of the competition’s most dangerous outside backs despite being just 20 games into her NRLW career.

Whitfeld joined the Cowboys prior to the 2024 season after a year apiece with the Knights and Wests Tigers.

The 24-year-old scored six tries in nine games during her maiden Cowboys campaign which culminated with her being named Cowboys NRLW Players’ Player.

Whitfeld has crossed for 10 tries in just six appearances for the Jillaroos, including five against PNG in last year’s Pacific Championships. She also scored in March’s historic victory over England in Las Vegas.

“Jakiya has been an incredible asset to our club since joining in 2024. Her competitive spirit and high standards inspires our squad to strive for excellence,” Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ricky Henry said.

“She is a true student of the game, dedicating endless hours to improving her skills and football IQ. Her bravery is unmatched and exemplifies her unique qualities as a football player.

“We are thrilled that Jakiya has committed to our program for the next three years and we eagerly anticipate watching her continue to develop both as a player and as a person.”
