
The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are thrilled to announce a partnership with Queensland Wheelchair Rugby League (QWRL) for their upcoming State Cup on October 25 and 26.
In a joint initiative with Queensland’s National Rugby League (NRL) clubs, the Cowboys will be represented alongside the Dolphins, Gold Coast Titans and Brisbane Broncos at the two-day tournament set to be played on the Sunshine Coast.
A host of Queensland's top wheelchair rugby league stars will be in action when the four sides battle it out at UniSC Arena.
Cowboys General Manager of Football, Micheal Luck emphasized the club’s dedication to creating opportunities for all.
“With one of largest footprints in the NRL, we’re passionate about making rugby league accessible for everyone in our community," Luck said.
“Teaming up with QWRL allows us to champion inclusion in a meaningful way alongside our fellow Queensland clubs.”
Cowboys CEO Jeff Reibel spoke of the partnership giving everyone the opportunity to be a Cowboy.
“At the Cowboys, we believe that being part of this club isn’t about limitations – it’s about heart, spirit and the love of the game," Reibel said.
“This partnership builds on our existing work in the community to help build a healthy and inclusive North Queensland.”
QWRL chairperson Zachary Schumacher is thrilled to have four brand new wheelchair rugby league teams representing Queensland’s NRL clubs.
"This exciting partnership between QWRL and these iconic clubs marks the beginning of a new era in inclusive rugby league, and we couldn't be more proud to share this moment with you all," he said.
"The 2024 State Cup is just the start of a bright future, where the clubs and QWRL will continue to work closely together to grow and elevate the sport for everyone."
