Queensland Wheelchair Rugby League visits Cowboys HQ

Ties that run deep between the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys and Queensland Maroons were bound even stronger during a recent visit by the 'Wheelchair State of Origin' reigning champions to the Hutchinson Builders Centre.

Zachary Schumacher, Queensland Wheelchair Rugby League Chairperson, said the visit was an invaluable opportunity to showcase the growing sport ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 Wheelchair Rugby League State Challenge showdown on 13 July.

During a behind-the-scenes tour of the club’s $40 million purpose-built community, sports, education and health facilities in Townsville, the QWRL team gave Cowboys Co-Captain Reuben Cotter a spin in a specialised rugby league wheelchair.

Cowboys Head Coach Todd Payten also presented the team with a signed jersey to support the team's fundraising efforts.

The Quensland Maroons have held the Wheelchair Rugby League State Challenge Origin title for three years, most recently posting a 42–26 win over the NSW Blues in 2023.
