XXXX encourages Queenslanders to support the Great Barrier Reef Foundation

Queensland brand and champion of the good life, XXXX, has announced the new donation initiative ‘Support Schooners’ to help support the Great Barrier Reef, simply by sipping on a schooner.

From today until April 26, for every XXXX Gold schooner sold at specific ALH venues across Queensland, 50 cents will be donated to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. The initiative is in response to bleaching unfolding across the Great Barrier Reef from the impacts of climate change and rise in sea surface temperatures, heightened by last year’s El Nino conditions in the Pacific Ocean. The funds will be used to plant much needed coral on the reef, and support the Foundations coral IVF efforts.

ALH Queensland State Manager Tim Osborne said: “When XXXX approached us about “Support Schooners” we were very eager to get on board. This initiative is a great way for people to get behind a worthy cause just by enjoying a XXXX at many of our hotels across the Sunshine State.”

To bolster the ALH venue efforts, 50 cents of every schooner sold at the NRL North Queensland Cowboys vs. Gold Coast Titans match at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on 7 April will support the cause, and the Cowboys Leagues Club will run the initiative during April. XXXX will also be giving up its logo on the Cowboys shorts and replacing them with the GBRFs logo to further promote awareness of the foundation.

Gavin Cooper, Head of Commercial Partnerships from the Cowboys said, “We love the reef and all that it offers to the north QLD community. Being able to leverage our home game to put the spotlight on and raise some funds for the reef is a great privilege. Our players are also stoked to be able to show their support via the logo on their kit, so it’s shaping up to be a good day for a beer all round”.

Chris Allan, Head of Marketing - Core Beer of Lion Australia, said “Queenslanders have proven time and time again that they give a XXXX about their community and their environment. We know protecting our incredible reef by grabbing a schooner with mates is a cause that all Queenslanders can get behind,”

Great Barrier Reef Foundation Managing Director, Anna Marsden, said “We’re proud to partner with another Queensland icon, XXXX, to work with farmers to protect our waterways and improve the conditions for the reef’s precious corals.

“Sadly, this summer the Great Barrier Reef has experienced multiple cyclones, flash flooding and now a marine heatwave is causing mass coral bleaching and it needs our help. We all have a role to play in helping protect the Reef for future generations and the funds raised through this promotion will pour support into vital reef conservation efforts that will help the Reef recover and build the resilience of this precious ecosystem.”

The partnership between XXXX and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation began in 2022, with the brand investing $1 million in the restoration and health of the reef’s waterways.

The promotion is running now until April 26, 2024.
