The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are excited to share the resounding success of their Cowboys Community Corner program in its 14th year, a testament to the club’s commitment to fostering community connections supporting local organisations.
With the committed support of Townsville City Council, the program has reached new heights benefiting 43 community organisations and engaging more than 215,000 Cowboys members and fans throughout the 2023 season.
In an innovation, Cowboys Community Corner was revitalised in the 2023 season, embracing a fresh approach that welcomed 30 additional participants compared to previous years.
Presented and championed by Townsville City Council, this initiative has provided not-for-profit organisations, charities and community-focused groups with an exclusive platform at Queensland Country Bank Stadium to amplify their profiles and raise awareness for their causes and vital services.
Aligned with a unique theme at each Cowboys home game, Community Corner has served as a beacon for diverse messages, elevating the impact of participating organisations.
Reflecting the club’s deep commitment to community engagement, this opportunity has been extended at no cost to participating organisations.
The program’s 2023 expansion enabled a collaborative environment, allowing multiple exhibitors to unite under overarching themes such as inclusivity, sustainability, mental health and many more.
By facilitating a collective approach to promoting significant social messages, the Cowboys have fortified a sense of participation, inclusion and understanding during twelve home games this year.
Chief Community and Government Relations Officer Fiona Pelling expressed her enthusiasm on the program’s growth and the positive feedback it has garnered in its new format.
“Our valuable partnership with Townsville City Council has enabled us to extend this opportunity to community organisations, providing a platform for them to broadcast their messages and highlight the essential services they provide to those in need," she said.
“By curating themed rounds, we have broadened the reach of our participating organisations, uniting like-minded groups to not only advocate for individual causes but also collaborate to achieve specific social outcomes.
"We recognise the significance of leveraging our dedicated Cowboys fan base to magnify the reach of these organisations, particularly those with limited resources for marketing and promotion.”
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council was proud to team up with the Cowboys to deliver this community-centered initiative.
“Not-for-profit organisations, charities and community-focused groups are at the heart of what makes Townsville great and we are proud to be able to give them a platform and help support the work they do,” Cr Hill said.
“By making them visible at Cowboys home games we can help to raise community awareness about these organisations.
“Through initiatives like Cowboys Community Corner we can raise the profile of these organisations that do such great work in our community.”
Registrations for organisations to participate in the 2024 program will open early next year.
