North Queensland Toyota Gold Stars duo Theophelia Mosby-Nona and Aerielle Hobbler have been selected in the inaugural Australian Schoolgirls team.
The side, which was selected after Queensland’s 30-6 win over New South Wales in the under 18s schoolgirls clash prior to State of Origin Game III, will travel overseas for matches in September.
Despite being one of the youngest members of the Gold Stars squad, Kirwan State High and NRL Cowboys House student Mosby-Nona started the opening five games of the BMD Premiership season, before coming off the bench in North Queensland’s Grand Final win over the Central Queensland Capras.
Hobbler, a student at Mareeba State High, played the opening four games of the season for the Gold Stars as a 17-year-old before scoring Queensland’s final try in their 24-point win over New South Wales at Suncorp Stadium.
“To be part of an Australian Schoolgirls team is a huge honour, however, to be part of the inaugural squad is extra special,” Cowboys Elite Pathways Coach Ben Jeffries said.
“Players like Aerielle & Theophilia will set the tone for many years to come within this prestigious pathway which will provide more opportunities for young women from North Queensland in the future."
