Charity auction puts Defence jerseys up for grabs

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys members and fans will have a unique opportunity to add a match-worn 2022 Defence jersey to their Cowboys collection, with the club’s next charity jersey auction opening this Sunday.

To be worn during Saturday night’s XXXX Derby and NRL Anzac Round match against the Titans at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, the special edition jersey pays tribute to the rich history of the Australian Defence Force and its contribution to the North Queensland community.

The jersey is inspired by and features distinct elements from the story of Townsville’s 1942 bombings, including the city’s iconic Castle Hill and a field of poppies with ‘Lest We Forget’, in commemoration of the service and sacrifice made by those who have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations over time.

The 17 player-signed jerseys on auction will be finalised with the naming of the final team to take the field from 5.30pm.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Cowboys Community Foundation, supporting NRL Cowboys House, which removes geographic location as a barrier to quality secondary education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from remote communities.
