Laurie Spina Shield returns to Townsville this week

Seventy teams will descend on Townsville this weekend for the 24th Annual Laurie Spina Shield.

Held at Townsville Brothers RLFC on Friday and Saturday, teams from as far as the Torres Straits, Mt Isa and South East Queensland will join a huge contingent of North Queensland outfits for the premier under 11s carnival in Queensland.

This year’s Laurie Spina Shield will be played under the new Player Development Framework, which means no scores are kept, however players are still encouraged to give their best effort on the field.

The always popular Fastest Feet Relay will be held at Townsville Brothers RLFC on Friday between 12.15pm-12.35pm. The current NRL Apollo Protocols restrict on field activations at Cowboys games, which include a number of activations typically included as part of the Laurie Spina Shield experience.

“Overall it is shaping up to be another really exciting and enjoyable carnival for all involved,” Cowboys Game Development Manager Liam Bartlett said.

“With teams coming from such a huge range of locations, the Laurie Spina Shield presents a unique opportunity for teams to play against others from all over Queensland.”

The Laurie Spina Shield is run by the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys and proudly presented by Local Search.
