Lemuelu signs extension

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a one-year contract extension with outside back Connelly Lemuelu for the 2022 season.

Signed from the Bulldogs prior to last season, Lemuelu shot from the clouds to secure a fairytale NRL debut in Round 6 of the 2020 season.

The 23-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, has appeared in 15 games for the Cowboys since joining the club, including eight this season.

Lemuelu had become a regular at right centre for Cowboys Head Coach Todd Payten before suffering a broken thumb in Round 11.

“We’re excited Connelly has agreed to stay for another year, his game has really developed under Todd and his coaching staff,” Cowboys Head of Football Micheal Luck said.

“We view Connelly as a great contributor to the culture we’re trying to build at this club.

“He’s extremely professional in everything he does both on and off the field and that’s exactly the type of player we want at the Cowboys.”
