The North Queensland Toyota Gold Stars fell just short in last Saturday's QRLW trial against the Central Queensland Capras, going down 16-8 in Mackay.

Saturday's trial was the Gold Stars first match in 12 months after last year's QRLW season was abandoned after just one match due to COVID-19.

“There were a lot of girls that haven’t played for a year so they were a bit rusty,” Gold Stars head coach Gavin Lloyd said.

“It was quite an error-riddled game and we made too many mistakes which allowed the Capras to get on top.

“We played 22 girls and gave everyone an opportunity to fight for a Round 1 spot.”

The Gold Stars kick off their season against the Valleys Diehards at Barlow Park, Cairns on Saturday, April 10.
