Three outback NQ towns to host Q-Cup games in July

Three outback North Queensland towns will play host to Queensland Cup fixture’s during July’s ‘Country Week’.

During Sunday’s Channel Nine broadcast of the Queensland Cup match in Ipswich, it was revealed that North Queensland towns Cloncurry, Thursday Island and Ingham will all host a match during Round 18.

Northern Pride head to Thursday Island to take on the Ipswich Jets on Saturday, July 20, before the Mackay Cutters play host to the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in Cloncurry (kickoff times TBD).

Finally, the Townsville Blackhawks close out the weekend with a trip to Ingham to face the Burleigh Bears at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 21.

QRL Managing Director Robert Moore said NRL Game Development teams, former rugby league greats and QRL directors and staff from all departments would engage with local communities throughout the course of the weekend.

“I’ve seen first-hand how much joy this event brings to outback communities, as well as our players and coaches who embrace the opportunity to travel far and wide to showcase their skills and engage with local fans,” Moore said.

“Last year, more than $100,000 in profit was generated by the local clubs and leagues who hosted Country Weeks games; and we look forward to seeing this event deliver another positive financial outcome in 2019.”
