As our North Queensland Toyota Cowboys members and fans get ready to enjoy 'family time' at tonight's home game, we encourage everyone to reflect on the lives of families whose loved ones don't come home from military service.

Townsville Legacy will be in LGIAsuper Community Hub for this week's Anzac tribute match, raising awareness for their important work in supporting the families of veterans who have given their lives or have become incapacitated due to their military service.

Legacy is a voluntary organisation supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers drawn from all walks of life, and Legacy Townsville CEO Nicole Hayes is inviting anyone interested in being involved to come along to find out more.

"Townsville Legacy supports over 720 widows and children throughout our region, north to Ingham, south to Bowen and west to Mt Isa," Ms Hayes said.

"We aim to reduce social isolation and provide emotional and financial support including paying for children's education and sporting expenses.

"Legacy has many ways you can become involved as a volunteer and we are always on the lookout for volunteers to assist with donations collections and administrative and pro bono support.

"Our volunteers are our backbone and come from diverse backgrounds, and we would love to hear from you if you're interested in supporting or joining Legacy."

Cowboys General Manager – Community Fiona Pelling said that Anzac Day commemorations are an important time to also remember the families of those fallen.

"With a large contingent of active and former Defence personnel in our North Queensland communities, many of us work, learn and live close to Defence families, and know their challenges and sacrifice," Ms Pelling said.

"Townsville Legacy is dedicated to supporting these families, and we're looking forward to welcoming the Legacy team to share their work at our game day."

Teaming up with the Cowboys gives LGIAsuper the opportunity to drive positive change through education and social initiatives, so be sure to visit the LGIAsuper Community Hub and learn more about the important work this organisation is doing in your community.
