We know that community spirit runs deep in the veins of North Queenslanders, so we're calling on Cowboys members and fans to come along to LGIAsuper Community Hub on Saturday night to find out more about the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and blood donation.

Located in the Western forecourt, the LGIAsuper Community Hub plays host to not-for-profit organisations throughout the season to help them raise awareness for their cause.

Dedicated to celebrating our emergency heroes of the north, this game day will also highlight the valuable contribution that over half a million unpaid voluntary Blood Service donors make to our commnity.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is a division of the Australian Red Cross, established to supply the community with safe, high quality blood and blood products, as well as organ and bone marrow services for transplantation.

With Townsville home to Australia’s only dedicated plasma donor centre, Red Cross volunteers will be calling for the generous support of the Cowboys community to join active donors across the country!

Red Cross community relations officer (Townsville and Mackay) Ben Payne said the main message at Saturday’s home game will be explaining the ‘power of plasma’ to rugby league fans.

Currently Townsville is the cornerstone of Australia’s plasma supply and the largest contributor in the country, but Townsville requires on average 50 new donors each and every week to sustain our contribution to Australia’s plasma supply.

“The community work that emanates from the Cowboys is wonderful and the Red Cross Blood Service is grateful for the opportunity to be talking to passionate North Queenslanders about the importance of donating plasma and answer any questions from potential donors,” Mr Payne said.

LGIAsuper is proud to be able to host the Red Cross in Community Hub, helping to increase the awareness around the constant need for plasma donors in Townsville on a regular basis.

Teaming up with the Cowboys gives LGIAsuper the opportunity to drive positive change through education and social initiatives, so be sure to visit the LGIAsuper Community Hub and learn more about the important work this organisation is doing in our community.
