Celebrating our emergency heroes of the north

As North Queensland Toyota Cowboys members and fans cheer on their rugby league heroes this Saturday against the Bulldogs, the club will recognise some of our unsung heroes of the north, dedicating the Round 6 match day to our emergency services of North Queensland.

Welcoming representatives from the Queensland Police, Ambulance, Fire and State Emergency Services to 1300SMILES Stadium, Saturday’s game will highlight the invaluable contribution that emergency service personnel and volunteers make to the lives of North Queenslanders every day.

Cowboys general manager of community Fiona Pelling said the club is honoured to have the opportunity to shine a light on the role emergency services play in our community.

“The Cowboys pride themselves on being a team player in our community, and this week we invite all members and fans to join with us in thanking our emergency services who literally put their lives on the line to keep us all safe,” Ms Pelling said.

“These dedicated men and women often work behind the scenes, night and day, and make great sacrifices in their own lives to be there when we need them, so we also thank their families.

“In the wake of recent weather events across the region, it’s even more timely to dedicate the match to our first responders who’ve helped fellow North Queenslanders through some fairly tough times.”

Saturday’s game day will feature an emergency vehicle display at the Northern gate from 3pm, with members and fans invited to bring the whole family to come along early and learn more about these important services.

The NRL pre-game show will include interviews with emergency services personnel, as well as a huge lineup of entertainment and activations on-field and around the grounds, including the Queensland Cup under-20s Northern Pride v Easts Tigers curtain-raiser, free amusements for the kids and live music at the new Garden Bar (north-east corner).
