North Queensland Toyota Cowboys members and fans will be treated to more than just the return of their rugby league stars for Round 1 (March 9), with Australian Sony Music recording artist Jess Mauboy today announcing a special post-match concert at 1300SMILES Stadium.
Marking an epic season opener that will see Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston become the club’s most-capped Cowboy (271 games), and reach an outstanding 300 NRL games, Mauboy is thrilled at the opportunity to be part of the milestone match.
“It’s no secret that I’m a huge Cowboys fan, so to be given the opportunity to perform for a home crowd, and help celebrate a club record for Cowboys legend JT is something I’m really looking forward to,” the two-time ARIA award winner said.
“It’ll be the first time I get to watch the Cowboys play at their home ground, and I hope plenty of other supporters can join me in celebrating such a massive game!”
Part of the Sony Australia family along with Thurston, Mauboy will entertain members and fans attending game day with a half-hour concert, performing hits like double-platinum single ‘Fallin’, after the full-time whistle on Friday 9 March.
Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner said the Round 1 home game blockbuster was fast becoming a “don’t miss” event for many reasons.
“Not only do we get to give our co-captain a passionate North Queensland ‘welcome back’ for his final season, but it’s also a chance to celebrate a new club record,” Tonner said.
“It will be a very special milestone with Cowboys legend and JT’s great mate Matt Bowen passing on the baton as ‘most-capped Cowboy’.
“All of this, topped off with a performance by one of Australia’s most successful artists – our members and fans cannot miss our season kick-off next month!”
