Custodian Lachlan Coote says getting their last-play options right against the Gold Coast Titans tonight is imperative to his team’s return to the winner’s circle.

Fifth-tackle options sorely let the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys down against the Sharks last-start, as the reigning premiers stormed home to win 18-14 after the visiting Cowboys led 14-0 at half time.

On more than one occasion, the Cowboys were caught with the ball on the last tackle due to an errant pass or a misunderstanding as the relentless Cronulla side made the most of gifted good field position.

After a few days off over the Round 12 bye, the Cowboys have put in two intense field sessions ahead of the Round 13 crunch game at 1300SMILES Stadium.

“We knew straight after that game that we have to be better at our last plays,” Coote said this week.

“There were some wrong options there, some poor decision-making, so getting that area right this weekend will be a big step in the right direction for us.”

Coote will combine with starting halves Ray Thompson and Michael Morgan as key playmakers on Saturday night, with Morgan set to back up after playing for Queensland in Wednesday’s State of Origin opener.

Tonight's game kicks off at 7.30pm.
