Every 41 minutes, someone in Australia is diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma. That's why we're asking bartenders to show us they're U.G.L.Y. by taking part in U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year! [Understanding Generous Likeable You] – ugly.org.au
The Leukaemia Foundation will say a big thank you tonight to local bartenders who are busy fundraising in the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year campaign.
With the support of the Cowboys Field of Dreams program and Tropic Petroleum, the U.G.L.Y. thirty will be special guests at the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys v Warriors game at 1300SMILES Stadium.
“During the six-week U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year campaign, our bartenders think up fun, far-out and fabulous ways to raise money to support the Leukaemia Foundation’s work to help North Queensland blood cancer patients and their families,” Ruth Guice, Leukaemia Foundation’s community fundraising officer for North Queensland, said.
“As the only Queensland charity dedicated to supporting blood cancer, we rely on the generosity of private and commercial donations and support for our fundraising campaigns to ensure we can continue to provide accommodation, as well as financial and emotional support when it’s most needed.
“Last year our bartenders raised over $35,000 to support local blood cancer patients and their families.
"This year, they have a combined target of over $50,000 with just six weeks to achieve their individual goals, so we’re hoping venue patrons get behind them all the way.
“Saturday night is our opportunity to say thank you, courtesy of Tropic Petroleum, by ‘shouting’ our bartenders a night to cheer on the Cowboys,” Ms Guice said.
Since it began, the Cowboys Field of Dreams program has given over 2,500 special individuals in the community the opportunity to attend a Cowboys game to watch their heroes live in action at 1300SMILES Stadium.
“What a fantastic job the U.G.L.Y. Bartenders of the region do for the Leukaemia Foundation," Fiona Pelling, Cowboys general manager – community said.
"The North Queensland Cowboys are certainly proud to give something back to these fantastic fundraising volunteers, with the generous support of our partners Tropic Petroleum."
