North Queensland Toyota Cowboys community partner Westfund Health Insurance has assisted various schools and community groups with its Here for Hearts program, a partnership with the Defibshop that is set to make Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) more available to the community to assist with cardiac emergencies.

Bob Whittaker, Westfund Regional Manager, says the Here for Hearts program is testament to Westfund’s efforts to play a more important role in the community.

“Westfund prides itself in being an active part of local communities," Mr Whittaker said.

"Defibrillation is very important in regional areas where machines can be limited and ambulance waiting times can be longer than usual.

"We hope this program continues to help people in emergency situations where extra time is crucial.”

AEDs are used in the instance of sudden cardiac arrest – if delivered within minutes of a cardiac arrest, defibrillation can increase survival rates by 80 per cent or more.

Local schools and community groups can apply to Westfund for AED purchase support by registering online.

Westfund will assist each successful applicant by matching the funds raised dollar for dollar.
