The Townsville Blackhawks have one hand on the Intrust Super Cup minor premiership in their debut season following the weekend’s 20-13 win over the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the penultimate round of the regular season. The Blackhawks need now win only next weekend’s game against Redcliffe in Townsville to secure the minor premiership after a plucky Mackay Cutters team held fellow table-toppers to a draw on Saturday. That 28-all result at Stadium Mackay means the Hunters are on 40 points and the Blackhawks 41 heading into the final round. The Blackhawks were made to work for the points away from home with Cowboys-contracted players Zac Santo and Kelepi Tanginoa crossing for tries.

 MACKAY CUTTERS v PNG HUNTERS

Mackay Cutters 28 (Josh Chudleigh 2, Jordan Pereira, Andrew Gay, Matthew Wright tries; Liam Taylor 4 goals) drew with PNG Hunters 28 (Stargroth Amean, Thompson Teteh, Adex Wera, Atte Bina, Nickson Borana tries; Noel Zeming 4 goals) at Stadium Mackay.

Despite holding the second-placed PNG Hunters to a 28-all draw in front of their home fans, the Cutters will only being playing for pride next weekend as they travel to Brisbane to take on Souths Logan in their final match of a topsy-turvy 2015 campaign. Cowboys-contracted hooker Josh Chudleigh again showed his class at Q-Cup level with two tries, while Cowboys winger Matthew Wright also touched down. The Cutters, currently in eight place on the ladder with 10 wins, 11 losses and a draw and out of the finals race – round out their 2015 campaign against the Magpies at Brandon Park, Acacia Ridge.   

NORTHERN PRIDE v NORTHS DEVILS

Northern Pride 26 (Linc Port 2, Justin Castellaro, Sam Obst, Vaipuna Tia-Kilifi, Tom Hancock tries; Justin Castellaro goal) def Norths Devils 10 (Michael Lucas, Rogan Dean tries; Liam Tyson goal) at Yusia Ginau Oval, Bamaga.

The Northern Pride got the chocolates against the Norths Devils in their Cape York clash in Bamaga, the 26-10 results guaranteeing the Cairns-based side a spot in the final. The sixth-placed Pride have 30 points with 13 wins and nine losses, and can move into fifth next weekend if they beat the CQ Capras and Easts Tigers lose to Wynnum Manly.
