Cowboys feeder teams do battle in Townsville

TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS 42 (Zac Santo 3, Michael Parker-Walshe 2, Jahrome Hughes, Mosese Pangai, Tom Humble tries; Tom Humble 4, Corey Jensen goals) def NORTHERN PRIDE 24 (Hezron Murgha, Brett Anderson, Luke George, Vaipuna Tia Kilifi tries; Linc Port 4 goals) at Jack Manski Oval.

The high-flying Townsville Blackhawks continue to impress during their debut Intrust Super Cup season, with a commanding 42-24 win over the Northern Pride at Jack Manski Oval on Saturday.

Led by a hat-trick of tries to Cowboys-contracted player Zac Santo, the Blackhawks piled on eight tries to four to remain atop the competition ladder with 12 wins and just two losses.

Santo was joined in the Blackhawks team by fellow Cowboys Kyle Feldt and Kelepi Tanginoa, with halfback Robert Lui unavailable due to playing in Saturday’s heart-stopping round 15 NRL win over the Raiders in Canberra.

Cowboys-contracted Pride fullback Hezron Murgha scored a try for the Pride, while forwards Ben Spina and Patrick Kaufusi also played in the match.

The Blackhawks next host the Sunshine Coast Falcons this Sunday in what is sure to be an emotional occasion following the serious injury to Falcons player James Ackerman in a tackle during the weekend match against Norths Devils.

The Pride – who sit outside the top six with a seven-win, seven-loss record – next play the second-place Ipswich Jets at Barlow Park on Saturday.

Cutters no match for hungry Tigers

The Mackay Cutters have slipped to sixth place on the Intrust Super Cup ladder with a 14-point loss to Easts Tigers in Brisbane at the weekend.

With Josh Chudleigh the only Cowboys-contracted player available for the Cutters, the Brisbane-based Tigers piled on six tries to three in the 30-16 win.

The Cutters have eight wins and six losses and their round 16 opponents are the fourth-placed Wynnum Manly Seagulls at Stadium Mackay on Saturday.
