The NRL match review committee has handed North Queensland Toyota Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston a Grade One – Tripping charge after coming into contact with Roosters fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in the Cowboys' first round loss on Saturday night.

The incident came in the 16th minute of the match, when Thurston made contact with Tuivasa-Sheck after a kick-chase downfield.

With no prior offences or carryover points, Thurston has taken the early guilty plea and is free to play against the Newcastle Knights in round 2 at 1300 SMILES Stadium this Saturday night.
