A massive crowd of Cowboys members and supporters met their team during a 90-minute meet and greet at Toowoomba Toyota on Friday night, ahead of tonight’s NRL pre-season trial.

The signing queue started forming more than an hour before the Cowboys’ arrival in the Darling Downs city and stretched through the dealership, across the car yard and down the main street by the start of the session.

Returning to his old home town to play for the first time in a decade, co-captain Johnathan Thurston was overwhelmed by the response.

“We were just blown away by how many people turned up and it was great to see hundreds of them in Cowboys gear,” JT said.

“We did what we could to see everyone but with more than 1000 people here, and a packed program for us in Toowoomba, it wasn’t quite possible this time.

“No doubt a response like this is going to encourage more teams to come play here because it’s a real rugby league town.

“Hopefully we’re going to have most of the crowd behind us again tomorrow night when we play the Titans and I’m hoping they’re really loud.”

Kick off at Clive Berghofer Oval will be at 6.30pm with a crowd of up to 9,000 expected.

TRL officials expect tickets will be available at the gate.
