Former Sarina Crocodiles junior Scott Schulte celebrated a return home by scoring a try in the NYC Cowboys’ 24-10 victory against the Mackay Cutters on Saturday night.

Yet to make his official debut in the under-20s competition, Schulte has started in both of North Queensland’s pre-season trials and is making a strong case for selection in the round one team against Canberra on 8 March.

His try was one of three the Cowboys scored in the first half to establish an 18-0 lead against the reigning Intrust Super Cup premiers.

Although Mackay fought back to be 18-10 down entering the final 20 minutes, North Queensland sealed the win via a Viliame Kikau four-pointer.

“I was really happy about it (the game), especially being at home in front of family and friends,” Schulte told the Mackay Daily Mercury.

“The first year was about progressing myself physically and building myself up. This year I'm getting some opportunities to show I've got some skills and I hope to make an impact.

“Each game I'm getting a little bit better, and I'm working on it.

“I'm aiming for a spot with the under-20s, and to play NRL would be amazing.”

Chris Law and Rainer Power were the Cowboys’ other try scorers.

NQ’s next NYC trial will be against TDRL premiers Herbert River at the Ingham Showgrounds this Saturday night – kick off will be at 6pm.
