Josh Hannay

Position: Assistant coach

Hannay played nine seasons with the Cowboys from 1998-2006, racking up 150 games, scoring 49 tries and kicking 343 goals. He was a member of the Cowboys’ 2005 grand final team and made two State of Origin appearances for the Queensland Maroons.

After a short stint with the Cronulla Sharks, Hannay then plied his trade for two seasons in the United Kingdom, where he played for Welsh-based side Celtic Crusaders.

Upon retiring from playing in 2009, he returned to his home town of Moranbah where he worked in the mining industry and coached the Moranbah Miners in the Mackay region club competition.

His coaching development then took him to the Intrust Super Cup, where he coached the Souths Logan Magpies for three seasons from 2014.

He also coached at a representative level, guiding the Queensland under-18s team in 2016.  

Hannay works with head coach Paul Green and his fellow assistant coaches in preparing the team, and also oversees Cowboys squad members playing for the club’s three feeder teams (Townsville Blackhawks, Mackay Cutters, Northern Pride).
