StreetSmarts tackles road safety with Cowboys in its corner

Queensland Government road safety public education program, StreetSmarts, is now the Official Membership Partner of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.

The two-year major partnership will see StreetSmarts and the Cowboys collaborate to promote road safety at the club’s home games, members events, community engagements and online.

The StreetSmarts logo will also appear on all Cowboys members merchandise and apparel for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Cowboys Chief Executive Jeff Reibel said the partnership had grown out of a long-standing collaboration between the Queensland Government and the Cowboys to promote road safety to members and fans.

“The Cowboys expansive footprint across regional Queensland means our members aren’t a short commute away, instead travelling thousands of kilometres from their respective communities to support us at our home and away games,” Mr Reibel said.

“Many of our members drive in from cane farms and cattle properties, mining towns out west, remote communities in the top end and all along the region’s coastline for our home games at Queensland Country Bank Stadium,” he said.

“As one example, we have full season members who make the long drive from Mount Isa for 12 games per year to support their team from the grandstand, which demonstrates why road safety is top of mind for our members.”

“StreetSmarts and the Cowboys have tackled the issue of road safety through initiatives such as our ‘Road Safety’ game day promotions and fan engagement initiatives in recent years, so the inking of this Major Partnership is a meaningful and important extension of that work for the next two seasons to come.”

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said StreetSmarts’ partnership with the Cowboys would help promote the road safety message throughout Queensland’s most remote and regional communities.

“When you think of North Queensland, you think of the Cowboys, because the club has some of the most passionate and loyal fans across the largest geographic footprint in the code,” Minister Bailey said.

"I'm delighted that this partnership with the Cowboys will provide another opportunity to promote road safety.

"In addition to reaching the Cowboys vast network of members, we’ll also be promoting road safety to the next generation of road users via the Cowboys’ secondary schools program TryTime! as well as during the club’s remote indigenous and regional community visits.

“Last year 297 Queenslanders lost their lives on the road, which is the highest number in over a decade, so partnerships such as this provide an important opportunity to raise the profile of road safety."I congratulate the Cowboys for their commitment to working with StreetSmarts in the road safety space, and look forward to seeing fantastic results from this partnership."
