Class is back in session

DBA-first-week-620x350

Young North Queenslanders will receive a boost to their career prospects, with 25 students going back to the classroom with the Cowboys Dream Believe Achieve Certificate III Hospitality course.

Over 44% of the latest group of students are under the age of 18 and have joined the program to undergo theoretical and practical training to enter the hospitality industry; set to gain new skills in coffee and bar service with work experience opportunities in venues around Townsville.

Cowboys general manager community Fiona Pelling said the most recent intake was one of the highest group of under-18’s in the program’s two-year history.

“While the program aims to give equal access to all North Queenslanders to upskill to enter or re-enter the workforce, it is great to see so many young people actively seeking employment opportunities,” Ms Pelling said.

“We’ve also seen a huge increase in the number of men taking up the course, which is equally pleasing from a diversity and equality perspective.”

One of their first classroom sessions saw special guest Shona Fairleigh, qualified flight attendant and wife of Cowboys assistant coach David Fairleigh – provide helpful real-world interview tips and insight into developing and succeeding in the hospitality industry.
