Cowboys thank the U.G.L.Y.

The Leukaemia Foundation will say a big THANK YOU this Saturday night to local bartenders who are busy fundraising in the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year competition.

With the support of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' Field of Dreams program and Tropic Petroleum, thirty U.G.L.Y. supporters will be special guests at the game against the Sharks at 1300SMILES Stadium.

Blood cancers, including leukaemia, affect people of all ages, with 35 Australians diagnosed with a blood cancer each day.

Leukaemia Foundation’s Community Fundraising Officer for North Queensland Ruth Guice said the unique fundraiser is all about supporting North Queenslanders in need.

“U.G.L.Y. stands for Understanding, Generous, Likeable, You.  It’s six weeks of fun, far-out and fabulous events at venues across the region, raising money to support the Leukaemia Foundation’s work to help North Queensland blood cancer patients and their families,” Ms Guice said.

“No one should have to face blood cancer alone. The Leukaemia Foundation relies on the generosity of private and commercial donations and support for our fundraising campaigns to ensure we can continue to provide accommodation as well as financial and emotional support when it’s most needed.

“This year we’re thrilled to have 34 bartenders from Ingham, Charters Towers, Ayr, Home Hill and Townsville on board with a combined target of over $70,000. They have just six weeks to achieve their individual goals, so we’re hoping venue patrons get behind them all the way.”

“Saturday night is our opportunity to say thank you, courtesy of Tropic Petroleum, by ‘shouting’ our U.G.L.Y. supporters a night to cheer on the Cowboys.”
