DADS READ

CityLibraries is inviting all dads to visit LGIAsuper Community Hub on Saturday night, with Hub activities focusing on the importance of reading to children and early years’ literacy with fathers being key role models.

Dads Read is an early childhood literacy initiative developed by the State Library of Queensland to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of fathers and families reading with their children, particularly in their early developmental years.

Participating Queensland public libraries run free, fun, Dads Read Storytime events and activities to encourage dads to get reading with their children.

Children and Youth Services Librarian Jo Branson said the program recognises the vital role dads play in helping children develop reading skills.

“We're at the game to have conversations with families and fathers about reading, learning through play and the promotion of CityLibraries Townsville programs for children aged 0-5 years,” Ms Branson said.

“The vision of CityLibraries is to enable ‘Connections for Life’ with our primary mission to work with our community to connect people, information, learning and lifestyle.”

LGIAsuper is proud to be able to support CityLibraries, who have served the local community for over 75 years, so be sure to visit the Hub and learn more about the various community programs your local library has to offer.
