North Queensland Toyota Cowboys fullback Lachlan Coote was on hand at Ronald McDonald House North Queensland this week to help launch the upcoming 'Ride for Sick Kids' charity fundraiser.

As an RMHC North Queensland ambassador, Coote makes regular visits to the Townsville facility to meet families and spend time with the kids undergoing treatment.

"The ride is raising great awareness for the charity, and it hasn't been in North Queensland for a little while, so it's great they'll be riding up here this year," Coote said.

Starting at Airlie Beach on Monday 7 August, a group of 23 riders will navigate through 660km of some of Queensland's most picturesque terrain on their way to Cairns to raise vital funds for the charity and its programs.

With the goal of raising over $150,000, funds will go towards supporting North Queensland families to stay close to their sick children while receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.

Ronald McDonald House North Queensland CEO Amy Cooper is excited to host the ride again this year, with the last ride occuring in 2014.

“Cyclists will be riding from Airlie Beach to Cairns raising funds for our seriously ill children and their families, many of whom come from the very region that our cyclists will be passing through," Ms Cooper said.

Since the inaugural ride across Queensland in 2008, over 6,000 kilometres have been traversed and more than $1.2 million raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Queenslanders are encouraged to show their support by donating to the riders or by attending one of the fundraising events along the route to help them reach their goal.
