Matt Bowen, Brent Tate and Bob Whittaker with NRL Cowboys House students

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys community partner Westfund Health Insurance have shown their big hearts with a donation to NRL Cowboys House as part of their 'Here for Hearts' programme.

Thanks to a partnership between the not-for-profit private health fund and Australian Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) distributor Defibshop, Westfund have added a life-saving defibrillator to the first aid equipment at NRL Cowboys House.

Westfund's North Queensland senior regional manager Bob Whittaker explained that the 'Here for Hearts' programme is all about looking for ways to give back to the community and improve health outcomes in regional Australia.

“The programme has seen us distribute life-saving AEDs to deserving schools and community groups, and when we became aware of NRL Cowboys House, we were eager to lend a hand,” Mr Whittaker said.

“NRL Cowboys House is a fantastic initiative, and Westfund applaud the Cowboys Community Foundation on tackling the shortcomings in support for Indigenous students head-on and fully support and share their passion for this issue.”

Joining with the club in 2016, Westfund’s community-first attitude has seen the development of a number of community-centric health initiatives, including their Vision Screening programme in schools throughout North Queensland.

Cowboys general manager – commercial Jeff Reibel is pleased to have corporate partners who are so aligned to the club’s community ethos and able to deliver valuable programs to supporters in the club's catchment area.

“We are proud of our association with Westfund and their mutual support of NRL Cowboys House,” Mr Reibel said.

NRL Cowboys House assists students in completing their secondary schooling in Townsville, while nurturing their additional interests across the arts, academic pursuits or sports.

The House is a joint initiative between the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, the National Rugby League and Queensland and Australian Governments, and is managed by the Cowboys Community Foundation, with financial and other support from the NRL.
