Give your love to a Cowboys fan

Ring bearers footballs_620x350

Want to know the secret to keeping your future groom interested in the wedding plans? Theme your special day in honour of your favourite NRL club – just like Cowboys-mad couple Jay and Madonna Wehlow did!

While the concept was largely thanks to Madonna, in keeping with her dream to have royal blue and sunflowers, she says the theme represented their relationship perfectly.

“Our ‘office romance’ began over many Cowboys and NRL conversations, so the theme fell into place very easily to make our wedding represent us, and our relationship – but it certainly helped with keeping Jay engaged and semi-interested in the planning process,” Madonna said.

Last year’s Mission Beach nuptials were a hit with the guests, particularly the father of the bride who is also a massive Cowboys supporter.

“Dad actually gave us the idea of Cowboys footballs for the ring bearers…, and he especially loved the part of being seated at the ‘Broncos’ table (not).”

“Given that we were also married on Grand Final weekend (the only Saturday during the season there are no NRL games on), the theme easily led to a conversation starter as well.”

After a career move to Brisbane in 2015, Distant Star member Jay [groom] remains loyal to North Queensland having been born and raised in Charters Towers.

“Jay has been a fan of the club for over 15 years; he loves the work that JT does both on and off the field, using the game for social change,” Madonna said.

“He is such a die-hard fan that he goes to the extent of ensuring he’s wearing his Cowboys jocks every game day!”
