North Queensland Toyota Cowboys fans have another reason to be excited for their team, with the first appearance of the Toyota 86 Racing Series Cowboys cars in the Townsville 400.
Cowboys Johnathan Thurston and Jason Taumalolo declared themselves car racing supporters after inspecting two 86 series cars, both painted in Cowboys colours to signify the Home and Away jerseys.
The Toyota 86 series comes to Townsville’s testing 2.85km parkland-style street circuit for three races on the weekend of 8-9 July.
It's the second of five rounds for 2017 and the first time since its inauguration last year that the one-make Toyota sports car series has headed to Queensland.
Cowboys' principal sponsor Toyota created the 86 series to identify, develop and promote new driving talent and offers prizes valued at $125,000.
Toyota ambassador Thurston said he was thrilled the Cowboys would be represented on the circuit in Townsville.
“The car races in the heart of Townsville are a fantastic event for North Queensland and we’re excited to be involved,” he said.
“Jason and I saw the special Cowboys branded cars with our coach Paul Green. They look fabulous in our club colours and even had our names on the windscreens.”
Series organisers will allocate the two Cowboys cars to two established guest drivers in Townsville.
Organisers expect a strong field to compete in the Townsville action on a 2.85km circuit that includes 13 corners.
