Cowboys hooker Jake Granville has backed rookie half Kyle Laybutt to stand tall if he makes his National Rugby League debut on Saturday night.

Laybutt, 21, is in line to partner Michael Morgan in the halves – and in the process be named North Queensland Toyota Cowboys player #265 – for Saturday night’s Round 14 clash against the Parramatta Eels in Darwin.

Should Bundaberg product Laybutt get the call-up, it will be a dream debut for the young playmaker, who is in his second year as a full-time Cowboy.

“I think Kyle will do a great job for us if he plays,” Granville said.

“He’s been training with us full-time all last year, during this pre-season and this year. So he knows all our stuff and he's a talented kid.

“It’ll be exciting for him if he makes his club and NRL debut.”

Granville is shaping to play his fourth straight game back from a broken leg, the Rockhampton product having improved with each outing.

“The body feels good and as a team I think we’re going well at the moment,” he said.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 7.30pm, Queensland time – broadcast on Fox Sports and 4TOFM, plus live updates on Twitter @nthqldcowboys and the official Cowboys app!
