The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are getting behind Townsville District Rugby League's Pull On Your Socks round for the McGrath Foundation in their match against the Titans at 1300SMILES Stadium tonight.
The local rugby league community-wide approach – involving the Cowboys, Townsville Blackhawks and Townsville District Rugby League – aims to raise $10,000 for families experiencing breast cancer, with players of all ages supporting the cause on the first weekend in June.
As match day sponsor of tonight's home game, Cowboys Leagues Club general manager Clint Williams said he is proud to have the opportunity to help raise money and awareness for the national breast cancer charity.
“Our team will be selling pink socks in all of our merchandise outlets on game day, with all proceeds going directly to the McGrath Foundation,” Mr Williams said.
“Their aim to increase the number of breast care nurses will directly benefit thousands of families, many of whom live in our region – it’s something we’re happy to be part of.”
The Cowboys Leagues Club will also utilise their match-day sponsorship to garner additional awareness with a fun on-field sock relay.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the McGrath Foundation has set an ambitious goal to increase the number of McGrath breast care nurses to 110 to support 10,000 more families, and the 'Pull On Your Socks' initiative will play a big part in helping reach this goal.
McGrath Foundation ambassador and director Tracy Bevan says 'Pull On Your Socks' is a fun way for communities to support the Foundation’s mission of ensuring every family impacted by breast cancer has access to a dedicated breast care nurse.
“Seeing the Townsville community come together in such an incredible way is really awe-inspiring and we’re so grateful for the support,” Ms Bevan said.
“Our McGrath breast care nurses are at the heart of what we do at the Foundation. They’ve already helped more than 50,000 families in Australia experiencing breast cancer.”
Cowboys’ general manager community Fiona Pelling said it was great to be part of an initiative that will help generate awareness throughout the North Queensland rugby league community.
“The demand for specialist health care continues to grow in regional and rural Australia, which makes programs like this all the more important as they work to increase the health care options for people no matter their location or financial situation,” Ms Pelling said.
