The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys were out in force today for Adopt-a-School, visiting schools throughout the Townsville region, thanks to program partner Stockland Townsville.
It was a Monday morning with a difference for Shalom Christian College's adopted Cowboy Ray Thompson, who joined in the healthy eating conversations with a Year 3 class who were learning about food groups.
Led by teacher, and ex-Cowboy from the original 1995 squad Shane Christensen, the class raced the clock in a fun food-chart board game, before a Thompson-inspired cooking demonstration making delicious banana smoothies!
Meanwhile, current Cowboys captain Gavin Cooper visited the Year 5 and 6B students at Hermit Park State School, where he joined in with the class as they worked on some online animation.
This was followed up with a Q&A session where Coops confessed to being a big eater on account of his struggles to put on size during the season.
After fielding questions about food – in the "Eat Well, Play Well, Stay Well" theme – injuries and footy, the students took their beloved adopted Cowboy out for a fun game of tag, where the NRL veteran had his work cut out for him chasing down the runaway fifth- and sixth-graders!
Shane Wright went along to Calvary Christian College to visit the prep class. Shane helped students with their journal writing, played sight word games and read a story book. Prep students beamed with pride when Shane sat down beside them, read their weekend recounts and asked questions about their work.
