North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Adopt-a-School program partner, Stockland Townsville, have re-signed as a major sponsor, continuing their long-standing commitment to the club and to supporting education in North Queensland.
Adopt-a-School is the Cowboys' cornerstone community program, with Stockland’s ongoing partnership enabling the club to continue to reinvest in the local school community.
Along with the Adopt-a-School program, Stockland Townsville support Dream, Believe, Achieve, the club’s employment and training program, and also sponsor the popular annual Cowboys Christmas card competition for North Queensland schools.
Stockland Townsville are also a local agency for Ticketek, selling tickets to every Cowboys home game at 1300SMILES Stadium.
With the Adopt-a-School program now in its 17th year, Stockland Townsville centre manager Malcolm Miller said his team are pleased to continue their work with the community.
“We’re proud to support such important community programs, which support the growth of our local region, and the development of our future leaders,” Mr Miller said.
“The Adopt-a-School program in particular helps us to build healthy, smart and connected communities, and we’re looking forward to hearing good stories from the children participating in the program this year.”
The 54 participating primary schools from Townsville, Palm Island, Burdekin and Charters Towers will receive regular visits from their adopted Cowboy to engage students in the key “Eat well, play well, stay well” program messages.
The 2017 program kicked off with teachers joining their adopted Cowboys for a recent breakfast meet and greet, their first opportunity to hear about the school visits planned throughout the season.
Cowboys’ general manager community Fiona Pelling said the program would continue to deliver important messages to students about healthy lifestyles, thanks to Stockland.
“We’re delighted to have Stockland Townsville continue their partnership and thank them for their passion in giving back to our community, particularly their focus on education and training for our young people,” Ms Pelling said.
The Cowboys make over 650 visits to North Queensland schools each year for Adopt-a-School and are regularly involved in a variety of school community activities, including curriculum activities, sporting clinics, presentation nights and school assemblies.
Players will make their first visits for 2017 to their ‘adopted’ schools next week.
