Young tyro Shane Wright says he’s ready to rip in for his first outing as a North Queensland Toyota Cowboy when the team begins their 2017 NRL Auckland Nines campaign on Saturday.

Meet Shane Wright – player profile

The inaugural Nines champions return to Eden Park eager for a solid start to the tournament, with the Roosters and Raiders their Day One opponents.

Wright, 20, is one of a number of Cowboys main squad young guns vying for regular-season NRL time in 2017, and he knows the Nines is a good chance to impress and stake his claim.

“I’ve loved the pre-season up in Townsville in my first year with the club and I’m excited at this great opportunity to represent,” Wright said.

"I know my job is to work hard in attack and defence in the middle of the field, so that’s what I’ll do to help the team.”

Wright joins good mate and former Gold Coast Titans under-20s teammate Shaun Hudson in the 18-man Cowboys squad in Auckland.
