The Cowboys’ 2016 NRL campaign was always going to be a watershed year for talented Townsville product Kyle Feldt.

Making a somewhat surprise – and, to this point, permanent – return to top-flight rugby league late in the 2015 season, Feldt needed to cement his spot in 2016 following such a stunning re-entry, which culminated in that grand final try in ’15.

With the main competition for his right wing spot, Matt Wright, a mid-season transfer to Manly, Feldt delivered on his undoubted potential, finishing 2016 as the club’s leading try-scorer and holding off strong competition for those bragging rights from Justin O’Neill and Antonio Winterstein.

A three-week suspension for a shoulder charge against the Raiders in Round 18 was a low point, but the naturally gifted athlete also tasted the highs of rugby league after being invited into the Maroons’ State-of-Origin camp ahead of Game II.
