Dads Read building life skills

Dads Read aims to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of fathers and families reading with their children, particularly in their early developmental years.

LGIAsuper Community Hub at 1300SMILES Stadium will be packed with reading fun and activities tonight, as we welcome CityLibraries Townsville and their Dads Read initiative to game day, North Queensland Toyota Cowboys v Melbourne Storm.

Come down to the Hub from 5pm – located on the Western concourse, beside the game day office – to learn more about the important role of parents, particularly fathers, in improving their children’s reading ability, plus there'll be:

• Balloons and temporary tattoos
• 'Must read' booklists for children of different ages
• Tips for dads on how they can help their children’s reading

“We'll be at the game to talk with families and fathers about reading, learning through play and the promotion of our programs for children aged 0-5 years,” Jo Branson, CityLibraries Townsville children and youth services librarian, said.

Upcoming CityLibraries Townsville library programs focusing on family and early childhood literacy include:

First Five Forever: Toddler Time
• Tuesdays, 10am, Thuringowa Central Library
• Thursdays, 10am, Aitkenvale Library

First Five Forever: Saturday Storytime, Aitkenvale Library
• 10am, Saturday 6 August
• 10am, Saturday 10 September
• 10am, Saturday 15 October

Community Hub partner LGIAsuper manages almost $9.5 billion in retirement savings for around 90,000 current and former Queensland local government employee members.

“As a super fund, LGIAsuper is focused on improving our members’ financial literacy to help them make informed decisions about their money and financial future," LGIAsuper CEO David Todd said.

"We believe a secure financial wellbeing later in life starts at home in the early years through programs like Dads Read.

"LGIAsuper is proud to spread the word about the vital role dads and families play in helping their kids develop positive reading behaviour and skills."

Thanks to LGIAsuper for the opportunity to promote the Dads Read program and its benefits and resources to our members and supporters!
