As part of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' support of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, the capacity crowd at Friday's game against the Broncos will have the opportunity to learn about domestic violence, what they can do to stop it and the efforts of four local community services working with victims.
The LGIAsuper Community Hub at 1300SMILES Stadium will host volunteers from the North Queensland Women's Legal Service (NQWLS), the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Legal Service (ATSIWLS), Relationships Australia and the local chapters of Zonta International, who will be distributing information about domestic and family violence and the services available to victims.
“We are proud that, with the support of LGIAsuper, we can provide the Community Hub opportunity at our home games to raise awareness of issues like domestic and family violence, and encourage fans to support the organisations in our community that are trying to make a difference," Cowboys General Manager - Community Fiona Pelling said.
Community Hub host LGIAsuper manages almost $9.5 billion in retirement savings for around 90,000 current and former Queensland local government employee members.
"Supporting these services and the work they do to empower others is a way for us to strengthen our community partnerships and make a direct and positive difference to the lives of our members and the communities they live and work in,” LGIAsuper CEO David Todd said.

- One in six Australian women has experienced physical abuse at the hands of a current or former partner
- One in 19 Australian men has experienced physical abuse at the hands of a current or former partner
- One in four Australian women has experienced emotional abuse at the hands of a current or former partner
"Domestic and family violence is an issue in every suburb and community in North Queensland," Anne Lewis, Director of North Queensland Women’s Legal Service said.
“Our partnership with the Cowboys and the Townsville Fire in the Tackle Domestic Violence campaign is calling on Queensland families across the state to take a stand against domestic violence.
“It’s fantastic that we have this opportunity to raise community awareness and promote a clear message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated at the Cowboys’ biggest home game of the year.
"LGIAsuper and the North Queensland Cowboys are showing true community leadership in supporting us this way.
"We hope that everyone at the game on Friday comes to the LGIAsuper Community Hub to have a chat with us and learn a little about domestic and family violence and the services that are helping victims.”
