CREATE: Connect, Empower, Change

LGIA-Community-Hub-hg4-620x350

Come along to the LGIAsuper Community Hub at tonight's North Queensland Toyota Cowboys’ home game against the South Sydney Rabbitohs to learn about the important work of the CREATE Foundation.

The Foundation is the national peak consumer body representing the voices of children and young people with an out-of-home care experience (including kinship care, foster care and residential care).

CREATE Foundation provides programs and services to children and young people in care and develops policy and research to advocate for a better child protection system.

CREATE believes all children and young people with a care experience have a natural right to reach their full potential in life.

Creating a better life for children and young people in care is the mission of CREATE Foundation Rescue.

“At CREATE we connect children and young people to each other, to their organisation and their community connections,” said Sarah Gough, CREATE Foundation youth facilitator.

“We empower children and young people to build self-confidence, self-esteem, and skills that enable them to have a voice and be heard.

“Our goal is to change the care system, in consultation with children and young people, through advocacy to improve policies, practices and services, and increase community awareness.”

At this week’s home game, the LGIAsuper Community Hub will host CREATE Foundation’s volunteers, who will distribute brochures and information along with wristbands to patrons to promote their work.

A special CREATE Foundation stand located at the LGIAsuper Community Hub will feature a range of t-shirts, key chains and other merchandise to promote their community work.

Fiona Pelling, North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' general manager – community said: “It's great that, with the support of Queensland superannuation fund LGIAsuper, we can provide the Community Hub opportunity at our home games for charities and causes like CREATE Foundation to raise awareness and encourage fans to support them”.

CEO of LGIAsuper, David Todd, said the super fund for current and former Queensland local government employees and their spouses has helped members achieve their financial goals for more than 50 years.

“Community is in our DNA and through the LGIAsuper Community Hub we can extend our helping hand to family and friends of members and others in the community by helping not-for-profit organisations like CREATE Foundation reach their goals too,” Mr Todd said.
