Members and supporters attending the first Cowboys first game of the season against the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday will have the chance to celebrate a new game day feature.

With the support of Queensland superannuation business LGIAsuper, the Community Hub at each North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' home game at 1300SMILES Stadium will give local charities the chance to connect with fans and raise awareness of their services and fundraising efforts.

The superannuation fund for current and former Queensland local government employees, LGIAsuper looks after almost $9.5 billion in retirement savings for around 90,000 members.

“Community is in our DNA and this Community Hub is a great way for us to give back to the local community,” LGIAsuper CEO David Todd said.

HeartKids Queensland will be the first charity to benefit from the LGIAsuper Community Hub initiative, using the opportunity to increase awareness among fans of childhood heart disease, as well as sell merchandise and promote their Super Boss Day.

“Eight babies are born with heart disease in Australia every day,” Zoe Dark from HeartKids Queensland said.

“In fact, heart disease is the leading cause of death of children under one and there is currently no known cause or cure.

“We hope that everyone at the game comes along to say hello to the HeartKids Queensland team and learn a little more about what we do to improve the lives and futures of those affected by childhood heart disease, by providing in and out of hospital support and driving world class research.

“We’re also hoping that we can encourage fans to get behind our 'super bosses' at the game.”

Super Boss Day is a new fundraising initiative of HeartKids Queensland where bosses are asked to dress as a superhero at work for just one day and get sponsored to do so by their staff, friends and family.

“Don’t be surprised if you see a few bosses dressed in tights and capes at the game too,” Ms Dark said.
