The Northern Pride have had their final hitout before the 2015 Intrust Super Cup finals, thumping the bottom-placed CQ Capras 46-18 at Barlow Park on Saturday. Led by a stunning four-try burst from fullback Linc Port, the win means the Pride have finished the 2015 regular season in sixth place with 14 wins and nine losses, and will now take on third-placed Ipswich (16 wins, seven losses) in an elimination semi-final at the North Ipswich Reserve on Sunday, 6 September. Cowboys squad member Javid Bowen kicked five goals in the nine-tries-to-three rout. The Capras finished a tough 2015 campaign with just the one win from 23 games and will look to rebound next year when Mackay Cutters coach Kim Williams takes over the reins. The Pride will welcome back suspended Cowboys-contracted fullback Hezron Murgha for the semi-final.

The Mackay Cutters have had a disappointing end to their 2015 season, falling 32-18 to Souths Logan on Saturday. Missing key Cowboys squad members Sam Hoare (ankle), Josh Chudleigh (elbow) and Matthew Wright (Cowboys’ 18th man duty), the Cutters fell to their 12th loss of the season, finishing the year in eighth place (10 wins, 12 losses, one draw). The Magpies finished the season in 12th place with seven wins, 15 losses and a draw from 23 matches.

A minor premiership in their maiden year was the reward for the Townsville Blackhawks on Sunday when they routed the Redcliffe Dolphins 46-22 to finish the regular season on top with an impressive 19-win, three-loss, one-draw record. A grand final qualifier against the PNG Hunters in a fortnight’s time awaits the Blackhawks, who withstood a mid-game fightback from the Dolphins either side of halftime to run away with eight-tires-to-four win. Cowboys squad member Zac Santo bagged a double to finish the regular season with 26 tries, the most in the competition, and well ahead of Ipswich’s Marmin Barba (22). Fellow NQ player Glenn Hall also crossed while five-eighth Robert Lui kicked seven goals from eight attempts.
