The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have reached the half-century mark for the third time this season in a convincing NYC display over the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium today.

Todd Payten's team were ahead 22-6 at the half-time break and didn't look back in the second, finishing the match 56-16.

The Cowboys scored in the first few minutes via Viliame Kikau and were in control from then on, strong through the middle with Braden Uele, Kikau, Ross Bella and Jordan Kenworthy all impressive.

Brandon Smith was a constant threat from dummy half, while on the right edge Coen Hess's early pressure on Newcastle's halves set the tone for the match and they were nullified.

Yamba Bowie and Gideon Mosby were the best backs – the highlight of the day was Mosby scoring a long range try from a kick off.

Coen Hess was awarded the Anzac Spirit Trophy, presented by Cpl Micheal Hamer and Major Al Lynch after the game.

Coach Todd Payten: "I was happy with the ruthlessness the team showed in never giving the Knights a sniff."

The Cowboys now take a well-deserved week off for the representative round and will be back in action at 1300SMILES Stadium against the Bulldogs on Saturday 9 May.

North Queensland Cowboys 56 (Bowie 2, Kikau 2, Mosby 2, Schulte 2, Hess, Tia Kilifi tries; Hess 8/10 conversions)

Newcastle Knights 16 (Uta, Cogger, Birch tries; Donovan 2/3 conversions)
