Thirty young people involved in programs run across Townsville by The Salvation Army will have a special place at the Cowboys game against the Melbourne Storm tonight.

With the support of Stockland Townsville, the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' Field of Dreams program will provide the 12-18 year olds with the opportunity to have a night out together and support their team.

“Every week The Salvation Army runs activities for children and young people which aim to create a positive community spirit," Steve Sparrow from The Salvation Army said.

"We have youth activities on a Friday night open to all high-schoolers and a kids' club for disadvantaged primary schoolers from the Upper-Ross catchment area.

“Many young people across Townsville can feel isolated or alone and boredom can sometimes cause them to get into trouble. These programs give young people the opportunity to make new friends, have fun in a safe environment and be supported by many hard-working Salvos volunteers.

“The Field of Dreams program is a fantastic initiative and the generosity of Stockland Townsville in providing game tickets means that these kids can relax and spend some extra social time together,”  Mr Sparrow said.

Since it began, Field of Dreams has given over 2,500 special individuals in the community the opportunity to attend a Cowboys game to watch their heroes live in action at 1300SMILES Stadium.

Each game day, one of the program's partners donates 30 home game tickets to a local charity in recognition of their valuable contributions to the local North Queensland community.
