Junior rugby league footballers in the Cairns region will get the chance to meet Toyota Cowboys co-captains Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott and the rest of the 2015 North Queensland NRL squad at a coaching clinic and signing session next week.

In their first month of a new pre-season, the Cowboys, who are chasing a fifth consecutive NRL finals appearance, will be in camp near Cairns for three days and they’ll be taking time out to help grow the game in the North.
The clinic, for kids aged between six and 16, will be held at the Cairns JRL grounds in Mann Street on Thursday 27 November with registration from 3.30pm.
For 45 minutes, the Cowboys, as well as club development staff, and players from the Northern Pride, will help run through the some key league drills, as well as holding a separate session with the Toyota Cowboys Academy players based in Cairns.
They’ll then sit down for a signing session from 4.45pm that will be open to the general public and the kids who have just taken part in the clinic.
“It’s going to be a great chance for the kids in Cairns to get up and close with our boys as well as have some fun learning some extra footy skills at the same time,” JT said.
“We love getting face-to-face contact with the kids who are always so enthusiastic and we know we have plenty of Cowboys fans in Far North Queensland who will be keen to be part of the action.
“The numbers for the clinic are limited so the best idea will be to come down straight after school and register.”
The Cowboys membership team will also be at Mann Street to sign up 2015 members who will go into a draw to win a special Cowboys getaway weekend* that includes return flights to Townsville, one night’s accommodation for two and two tickets to a home game at 1300SMILES Stadium.
Memberships start at $35 for Star and Junior Star members.
The clinic and signing session will be the Cowboys’ only public appearance during their camp but the team will return for their pre-season trial against the Gold Coast at Barlow Park on 21 February.
