The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have added highly successful Northern Pride coach Jason Demetriou to their NRL coaching staff for the 2015 season.

Demetriou will work as an NRL assistant coach under head coach Paul Green and alongside current assistant coach David Furner when pre-season for the Cowboys starts in mid-November.

He comes to the Cowboys after an outstanding 2014 season that included winning the Intrust Super Cup minor premiership/premiership double and the inaugural NRL state championship title with the Pride and coaching XXXX Queensland Residents to victory against the NSW VB Cup representative team.

Demetriou also claimed the minor premiership with the Pride in his first year with the club in 2013 and finishes his two-year stint with a winning percentage of 82% (40 victories from 49 games).

He previously coached Keighley Cougars in England in 2011-2012.

“Jason has put together a great resume as a coach and we’re delighted to have him join us here at the Cowboys,” Cowboys general manager – football Peter Parr said.

“He already has a strong relationship with our club and many of our players from his time at the Pride and he really enjoys being a part of the rugby league community in North Queensland.

“There’s no doubt that he’s ready to test his skills in the NRL.

“We’d like to thank the Pride for allowing Jason, who had only recently extended his contract, to pursue this opportunity with us.”
